The Academic Masters in Biomedical Informatics - A Residential, Full-time Masters Program - Program Requirements

The Biomedical Informatics program offers a full-time residential program. A important belief underlying our programs is that leaders in this field require broad exposure to formal coursework in addition to intensive research training. The curricular structure of the Biomedical Informatics Training program is highly flexible, allowing candidates with depth in specific areas the opportunity to broaden the scope of their training.

Candidates in the BMI program are required to take classes in the following five (5) areas:

  • Biomedical Informatics
  • Probability, Statistics, Decision Science, Machine Learning, Experimental Design
  • Computer Science
  • Biomedical Domain Knowledge
  • Ethical, Social and Legal Policy

Most candidates with advanced degrees will have adequate training in one or more areas and may request waivers for some or all of the class requirements in one or more of these areas.

The M.S. is suitable for candidates who have graduate training at the level of the M.D. or Ph.D. For these candidates, the Masters program constitutes a postdoctoral experience which satisfies the formal requirements for a Masters degree.

Exceptional candidates with a Bachelors or Masters will be considered but see the funding page for restrictions.
