coterminal program
(Stanford undergradUates only)
Description
All degree candidates should note that the BMI program emphasizes research to develop and apply novel computational methods that can advance biomedicine. Students receive training in the investigation of new approaches to conceptual modeling and to development of new algorithms that address challenging problems in the biological sciences and clinical medicine. Students who seek graduate work in biology emphasizing computation and who wish to use computational methods in their pursuit of research questions in the natural sciences will be better suited for Stanford's graduate programs in the biosciences, including departments such as Genetics, Structural Biology, and Developmental Biology.
The coterminal degree program allows undergraduates to study
for a master’s degree while completing their bachelor’s degree(s)
in the same or a different department. Stanford undergraduates are eligible
to apply for the co-terminal program. Students typically apply in the
fall quarter and if admitted, may matriculate in the following winter
or spring quarter.
Students must have completed 105 units (or eight quarters) and must matriculate
to this program before the 11th quarter of undergraduate study. Students
should apply at least four quarters in advance of the anticipated conferral
of the co-terminal M.S. degree.
The general GRE test is encouraged, but not required.
